Mia Lise Harper, NCTMB,
LMT
Nationally Certified Massage Therapist
After
16 years traveling around the world for her husband's Foreign Service career,
raising three kids and teaching meditation classes along the way, the family
returned to the States and Mia decided to embark on a career in therapeutic
massage, creating her own style of body work that combines Swedish massage
with lymph drainage therapy, energy work and deep tissue when needed.
Mia found her niche at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore, MD, where she worked to ease the discomfort of cancer patients who were dealing with the effects of chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery. While at Mercy, she also led groups of employees, patients, and healthcare practitioners through mindfulness breathing and meditation practices.
It is with gratitude and an open heart that she is joining the team at the Health and Wellness Center of Kent Island.
Appointments can be made by calling the Health and Wellness Center Monday through Thursday during regular work hours. For evening, weekend, or Friday appointments, you can reach Mia directly at 410-980-8445.
Therapeutic Massage
Using a combination of Swedish, area-specific deep tissue, lymph drainage, and even Thai massage, this session will be tailored to your specific needs. Appropriate for relaxation or when you are in need of relief from sore muscles.
Oncology Massage
For people who have been diagnosed with cancer, massage therapy can help decrease the nausea, neuropathy, fatigue, anxiety, depression, insomnia, and feelings of isolation that can accompany chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. This is a gentle, skilled and structured touch used in combination with lymph drainage therapy and energy work where appropriate. *Note: even cancer survivors should seek out therapists who have been trained in oncology massage, especially if you have ever had lymph nodes removed.
Pregnancy Massage
This nurturing, relaxing massage is geared toward alleviating the aches, pains and swelling that can occur during pregnancy, and can include gentle stretches and suggested ways in which your partner can help you during labor.
Hot Stone Massage
Feel your body melt in relaxation as hot stones bathed in oil are massaged over your tired muscles.
Lymph Drainage Therapy
The body’s lymphatic system helps circulate fluids, proteins and immune cells throughout the body, as well as eliminate toxins and waste. This gentle hands-on therapy helps reduce swelling, and chronic inflammation (which leads to acne, eczema and allergies); can aid in the regeneration of tissues (from burns and post-surgical scarring); and can stimulate the immune system.
Reflexology Foot Treatment
The theory of reflexology is that the feet have reflex areas that correspond to places on the body, and by applying pressure to those areas one can promote health in the corresponding organs. This foot treatment will also include a paraffin wax dip, hot towels and a foot massage.
Reiki
Reiki is an ancient tradition of hands-on healing in which the practitioner is drawing upon spiritually-guided universal life energy to aid the body in raising its vibration. The client is fully clothed and the practitioner’s hands are placed on or above the body to guide the energy toward areas that feel blocked or dense. Chakra Core Replacement Therapy is an additional energy balancing treatment used with Reiki to work directly with the chakras, or energy centers, in the body.
Guided Meditation
Meditation is a great way to help you reduce stress. Session will include guided imagery and breath work. Perfect for people who have never meditated before but have always wanted to learn.

Stay Hydrated, Stay Healthy
-
The average human loses between 3 and 6 liters of water on a
typical day. One to two liters rushes out as urine, and another
one-tenth liter in defecation. Water lost as vapor when you breathe
could fill around 1 to 2 liter water bottles a day and even more
in arid locations. Sweat fills up another liter on an average
day, but that amount can reach 1 to 2 liters per hour in an intense
workout.
But if you're dehydrated, that super gulp won't give you the quick fix you dream of. The body can only absorb about 1 quart per hour. Drink plenty of clean and filtered water throughout your day, every day. How much? A good rule of thumb is to drink enough water to equal 1/2 your body weight in ounces. For example: a 150 lb. person needs 75 ounces of water every day.
